At Least We Tried

Anonymous asked: Hi, sorry, non-tumblr user, just love your blog :) Could you clarify why you said that you wouldn't want to visit the abandoned houses in Detroit? Thanks

Gladly!  :)

Detroit, MI, has the 3rd highest rate of violent crime in the U.S.  The homes and buildings that are abandoned there are shells left of what the city used to be in its prime, and Detroit, like many cities, has a high percentage of homeless people, along with various gangs, and other unsavory characters.

As a born Michigander, I feel uneasy even walking around populated areas of Detroit during the daytime.  When entering an abandoned building, there are chances that one could have an encounter with strangers, and that could get dangerous.  There’s also the usual urban exploring dangers, like asbestos, lead paint, and other chemicals used in the building’s construction.  Also, these buildings have been left to sit for a long time, so the floors and stairs could be rotted through, which could be dangerous.

kirstycupcakee asked: i love your blog! Im planning on doing abandoned places for my final project next year as we get to pick it. So if you find any good ones in the UK let me know! Im trying to save up to go to Nara Dreamland or Takakanonuma Greenland. Your blog is insiparing me even more. So thank you.

Thank you!  :D  I know that there are a few abandoned theme parks, and factories and such in the U.K.  I’ll do some research later. If you go to these places though, just make sure to travel in a group, and be careful.  Cell phones are a must! :)

I’d love to visit Nara Dreamland, but Takakanonuma Greenland is pretty impossible to get to anymore, and it isn’t even on any maps.  :)  Good luck in your endeavors.  Japan has many more abandoned parks that are worth a visit.

explodingwewillgo asked: Didn't that park in South Korea close because two children died there? I looked it up and it said a little girl died and it was left alone for a long time before being torn down. Is that true?

Yes. This is true.  In Okpoland, a little girl fell from a duck-themed pedal car to her death, which resulted in the owner abandoning the park.  It wasn’t even a technical malfunction that caused it, as the car was propelled by pedaling, but sheer lack of maintenance on the ride.

The owner never took responsibility for what happened, and fled the area soon after.

breakyourheart-shapedglasses asked: hi! i found a reblog about the japanese theme park, and researched it online and this blog popped up! haha. it seemed cool so i followed it (:

Thank you for following! :D

Ole’ Takenouma Greenland definitely gets peoples attention.  It was really hard digging up information about it.

heykristinamaria asked: I seem to remember stumbling upon this blog from the Yahoo! front page. I believe they had photos of one of your abandoned places, and the sourced it back to here. That was a few weeks ago though !

I was on yahoo’s front page?

This explains so much!  I had this sudden increase of followers, and I wasn’t sure where they were coming from.  Now I know.

Thank you!

sorry I haven’t been answering your asks right away.

I’m researching.  :)  Give me some time.

Also, where did you guys hear about this blog?  There’s so many of you lately.

Anonymous asked: a massacre happened at a park?

Nope.  It’s just a hoax. Someone made up a story, and used pictures of Takenouma Greenland as “proof”.  But no such thing happened there.

If you want a park with a dark history, research “Okpo Land” in South Korea.  Not a massacre, but still chilling.

There’s a post going around with pictures of Takenouma Greenland…

claiming that a massacre happened there, and that it’s a different park entirely.

But, you guys know better.
